some painting and beading and a hiccup with the castle cage for Toothless

This weekend was a get everything cleaned up kind of weekend and I even had some time for a little a crafting. I finished a bead pin and a bunch of ornaments for the animals and one for me. The Boy crafted with me. We even made some fun paintings.

I made paw print ornaments for my 2 kittens and 1 new dog. I not sure if I should add little buttons or stickers to go on the ornaments or not.

I also made ornaments for the snakes. All four of them Hiss, Candy, Outlaw and Slytherin.

I made this one just for me, a fudge pop reindeer, I am so glad my friend spotted it. It was fun to do, and I think it is really cute.

Photobucket

I got the doors made and on the cage for Toothless, but it is not secure, and they don’t hang right, so I am not sure what to do next. I think I need some help.

Photobucket

The boy painted his nativity pieces. He seemed to have a good time while working on them. I think he got just as much paint on himself.

Photobucket

And we did these together, there are actually a whole bunch of them.

And I got this bead pin done. I think this will be my first and only beading project ever. Didn’t care for beading at all.

Photobucket

Well today is the last day of my vacation, tomorrow is back to work. I finally got the laundry done from the trip and I think I am unpacked. I just can’t find everything that I brought back, so I am a bit lost as to what I did with it.

Utah’s Hogle Zoo

Today Oct 12, 2011 we went out to Utah’s Hogle Zoo. For those of you that don’t know, I like to visit zoo’s, aquariums and wild animal parks when I take a trip. No trip is complete without checking out the local animal attraction, this time I made a stop to three basically. The Aquarium on Monday, Antelope Island which is more or less a wild animal park and today the zoo.

Where the Deer and the Antelope play and a little pumpkin

Photobucket

Today October 11, 2011 was absolutely beautiful. This morning we spent time at my friends house, just hanging out. This afternoon we went to Antelope Island. We saw huge Bison, went out to a working Ranch, we saw the lake and I got some awesome pictures of the mountains. There are even Antelope on the island now. There was even a gorgeous rainbow over the lake at the end of the island tour.

On the island is a real working sheep, ranch. Well it use to be a really sheep ranch, they still run horses out of the ranch and it is pretty much a visitor attraction now. There is so much stuff on the ranch from when they use to have a sheep ranch.

Photobucket

There is 500-700 buffalo on the ranch, we saw a very small percentage of these animals on our driving tour of the island, we did however manage to get close to the animals to get some incredible pictures.

Photobucket

I can say I stick my fingers in the Great Salt Lake. It is a gross smelling lake. Gross looking on the shore too, lots of dead brine shrimp floating in the water. It is my understanding is that the Great Salt Lake is no deeper than 30 feet at any spot, and the only thing that can live in it is Brine Shrimp, Sea Monkeys.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Over the lake I saw the mountains that border Salt Lake City, Ogden, Roy and the other cities along the East Shore of the Great Salt Lake. And towards the very end of the day, a rainbow.

Photobucket

Photobucket

We then went to Hobby Lobby I need a 12 by 12 pillow form. I didn’t find a 12x12 pillow form, but I got goodies to make Christmas ornaments for my new pets from this year.

We also made Yo-Yo Pumpkin. They are really cute little projects and work up so fast. I had a blast making my pumpkin. These are really easy to make a lot of fun to make too.

Photobucket

Tomorrow we go out to the zoo.

A slide, a waterfall, Shepherd’s Bush, Burger Bar, two flakes and more Slyther.

Been a little slow about posting these. But I have been writing them up daily. Here is Monday Oct 10th 2011.

Yesterday we took a scenic drive of the mountains. We got to see snow, Devils slide, a really pretty waterfall and fall colors. I hardly believed fall is a real thing until I saw the colors in Utah. Reds, and oranges and yellows, just beautiful. I collected some fall leaves and the boy played in the snow.

I bought myself the thread I am going to use on The Great Escape. I am using Week’s Dye Works., http://www.weeksdyeworks.com/index.php an over dyed six stranded cotton thread. The fabric is Belfast Crystal Dawn 28 count. WDW colors are White Lightning for most of my owl, Charcoal, Grasshopper, Sophia’s Pink, Sky, Banana Popsicle, Schneckley.

Photobucket

I am also picked up a piece of cold fabric and a piece of pink fabric and a cute little autumn pattern, I am think I am going to stitch my pumpkin up on the gold fabric, I think it will look good on there.

I got some more stitching done on my snowflakes; I have day 3 done now, which was a 2 snow flake pattern set from San Man Originals. http://www.sanmanoriginals.com/. I also got a little bit done on my TOS, I started the next section.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Here are a few more pictures of Slytherin. I love the broken pattern on his back. Check out his red eye brows, and the broken bands on his saddle patches.

We also enjoyed dinner at the Burger Bar, a restaurant featured on Dinner, Dive Ins and Dives, http://www.foodnetwork.com/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/index.html. Here is the link from You tube of the episode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIp0rWRnzME&noredirect=1

I had the Big Ben with Cheese and Sweet Potato Fries with Fry sauce, and a peanut butter milkshake. Yummy! If you end up in the area I suggest checking it out.

Today we plan to head over to Antelope Island.

Wasatch Reptile Expo and Living Planet Aquarium, Salt Lake City Utah

I slept in late today, it was after 8 or 9 when I finally got up, normally I am up at 6:30 sleeping in for me is 7 am. I am an early bird. However, I did get up the day before at 4 am, even if I lay in bed until 5 am. Then spent 13 hours on the road, and didn’t head to bed until 1pm. I also took some night time pain meds, was sore from sitting for 13 hours and my legs were real jumpy, so I wanted to calm them down, or try at least.

So today we went to the reptile expo. I have never been to one before. It was interesting. This was the Wasatch Reptile Expo. Wasn’t much to get in only $7. They had all kinds of great creatures in there. Gargoyle Geckos, Crested Geckos, Day Geckos, Bearded Dragons, Ball Pythons, Red Tails and so many more. It was great. I loved it, I had a blast. Saw some beautiful animals. A huge tortoise, a couple of Red Foots, big snakes too. There were local animals for viewing only and a guy who does reptile rescues. He had a couple of baby alligators, a Gila Monster on display, and a really neat looking monitor.

Salazar Slytherin “Slyther” his name is a collaborated effort. There was suggestions of Snape, which I did entertain, I did after all love his character in the books and movies. He was my favorite HP Character. But Slytherin works better, we can call him Slyther for short. This is a male Arizona Mountain Kingsnake. He has beautiful markings is around 5 years old and has a docile personality, I just fell in love with him when I held him. Easy going mellow. Male, I don't breed so males are better, no egg binding possibilites. He is about 3-4 feet long.

Photobucket

After the Expo we went to the Living Planet Aquarium http://www.thelivingplanet.com/ . I love going to zoos and aquariums when I travel. Here they have some South African Penguins, a huge Burmese Python named Peaches, lots of great looking frogs, a touch tank with rays, little touch tanks with a chocolate chip star fish, horseshoe crabs, pencil urchins, and brittle star fish. They had 2 huge aquatic hermit crabs, and a cool looking shrimp. Sharks, there was a woebegone, white time and leopard shark. And my favorite a lion fish, two actually. I just think they are beautiful fish. If I ever had a salt water tank, that is what I would have in my tank at least one. Probably 2, just for them.

The boy in front of Peaches exhibit, we have the magazine to send a picture to Reptiles Magazine.
